Project Engineer

JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Manager of Engineering and Construction, the Project Engineer is responsible for executing capital projects on time and on budget, with a focus on delivering project value with the primary accountability being the management of multiple concurrent capital projects from initial scoping through, design, execution, commissioning and close-out.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Define and execute projects using a stage-gate project management model including the deliverables, set and then managing costs and schedule, and manage stakeholders while adhering to Suncor's Journey to Zero safety mindset
Lead multi-disciplinary projects from inception through commissioning and handover to operations while Identifying opportunities to reduce risk and/or costs to enhance asset reliability, safety, and environmental performance
Coordinate all technical design documents/drawings ,working with in-house drafting personnel and outside consultants
Obtain Municipal/Regional/Provincial permits for constructions projects, including applicable service connections
Manage, track, and report on project status (Project Estimating, Project Scheduling a Project Risk Management)
Perform technical reviews and evaluations of engineered drawings, reports and proposals, and equipment design/specification
Manage project procurement of Suncor-supplied Goods and Services (material take-offs, SAP Requisitions and Goods Receipt), working with Supply Chain Management and Support groups
Provide technical engineering support for intended changes and integration into existing facilities
Co-ordinate and liaise with stakeholders including Operations, Marketing, Network Maintenance, and Supply Chain Management; coordinate project execution with General Contractors and Cross Functional Teams.
Perform Field Reviews/Site Meetings during Construction, including 1-year Warranty walks and complete on-site safety observations

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
University Degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical or Electrical preferred)
Licensed Professional Engineer (APEGA)
Minimum 2 years of experience in a Project Engineering/Project Management role

Skills and Knowledge:
Project engineering competency, leadership, and strong technical capability
Understanding/experience with commercial construction
Proven project management skills (on construction projects), problem-solving skills, leadership skills
Exceptional non-authoritative leadership skills
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Excellent computer skills (MS-Office, including MS-Project)
